Oh Brother...'s War posted on 31 August 2009
What a farce! Hogan's Hero's is more historically accurate, for the love of Pete! What were you guys smoking prior to watching/reviewing this B-movie? My 16 yr old is easy to please when it comes to movies, but even he was pissed that he drove 2 miles to the Cub Foods (Redbox) and wasted $1.99 of his money on this plotless, poorly acted, waste of everyone's time. He said, that he and his buddies could have made a more convincing war movie in the backyard, and I must concur. SAVE YOUR TIME AND MONEY FOLKS!

I was at first very excited about this movie and the concept and the point of view with the perspective being from that of a German officer. I could have even lived with the acting and the low budget. As a matter of fact, I tend to enjoy lower budget films. However, for anyone to consider that this movie is accurate from an historical point of view is insane. Are your seriously going to tell me that anyone that claims to be a historian would allow a 50 star American flag to be the main backdrop for a scene in a WWII movie? Then we have a farm building with yellow fiberglass panels circa 1972 trailer park on the windows and a modern ford rear end sitting on the ground. Too many inaccuracies to overlook makes this movie almost impossible to watch for anyone with any knowledge of WWII history.

This is an excellent War movie based on historical Facts. Some of the reviewers that gave it a low rating are used to historical inaccurate Hollywood films, which are based on pure fantasy and fiction. If you watch the generic Hollywood WW2 movies you may wonder why that war was not over in two days. This movie has great balance, not a phony Hollywood invention.

Partial review: I just saw the first 20 mins of this and noticed the Germans called the Russian tanks 'panzers.' Is it just me or weren't the German tanks called panthers(panzer) or tigers(tiger) and the Russina tanks called T-54 or T-74(I may be off on the numbers)? It just kind left me a little baffled. It started good though. I'll finish my review once I finish wataching it this weekend. I just had to get that off my chest.

This film has the quality of someone who went out, bought a camera, and filmed some extras. The actors are not convincing, the filming is supposed to provide that 'up right there' feeling but just makes viewers dizzy. I didn't even finish watching it. I rate every film I watch - the latest Star Trek was a C and the new Terminator was a B-. This one didn't even rate on my scale. . .

A story of Russian and German soldiers fighting on the Polish front, Spring 1945.
Let's get the laundry list out of the way. Average to horrible acting, a few pointless story lines, shaky cam style that ruins every battle scene, a music score that wrecks every other scene, multitudes of unfocused shots, a 5.1 sound that is mixed almost entirely wrong, rudimentary CGI, really fake hand to hand, artillery and high caliber rifles that had no recoil, and so on.
Now the good. Got to see some nice footage of nearby California (subbed for Poland), got to see my favorite mutant biker from Weird Science play a Russian, and that covers it. It had some emotional moments to it, and I give them props for showing multi-national cooperation in times of escaping Russian bad guys (German, Brit and whatever the gal was trying to be).
Special features: A multi-page screen text about the Freemasons. Putting aside the bad grammar and poor spelling, it contained some sad facts about their organization during the war. Also included is a nine-minute making-of showing the production team and extras doing their thing. Has some informative material on the props and rehearsals.
I give this two stars for the film and extras. I also noticed the few high rating reviews out there are from cast members, which I understand. -
I liked the film...An exciting, historically accurate look at the closing days of WW2 from a unique perspective..... I was very impressed by the quality of the uniforms, weapons, tanks etc.... used in the film.... looks at WW2 from a human side, not just portraying the Germans as Nazis, but as soldiers fighting for each other..... an accurate, enjoyable film that is worth a look.... more than anything, I liked the T-34 tank, the Hetzer tank destroyer, and the hand to hand combat...4 stars...

At first the movie comes across as having the makings of a gripping story. The makers of the movie tried to capture the aspects of the period associated with the Russian advance through Europe. Also some good attempts at avoiding the dumbing down of the combatants as presented by a lot of the Hollywood Movies, with perhaps fairly good portrayals of the Russian and German soldiers. However, the outcome of the movie becomes some what obvious. The appearance of a well dressed Gestapo officer in the field with a shaved head and goatie beard sporting a modern designer style long leather coat almost makes the movie satirical.

My wife and I watch a lot of movies and this is by far the worst movie we've seen in decades. After a while we actually started laughing because it was so bad. Call it a comedy and you might get better ratings. Horrible acting, a non existent plot and scenes that are just thrown in because they shot them, not because they have a flow or make sense.
I seriously think my college film production class would have made a more compelling picture. -
The DVD cover for this movie, the one for my movie rental is different that the one shown here, is awesome and the whole reason I chose this movie. The DVD cover is the best thing about this movie. It's terrible in everyway. I love the accents, French, British, American and that's just the over actors playing the Germans. It's cliche, the writing is bad, the actors are bad. The plot is silly. Just don't bother.

I decided to take a chance on this one only because I've never seen a movie about the biggest conflict ever, the WWII eastern front. But I should have known better, this film is barely watchable, but I admit I watched the whole thing. It's often dull, cheesy, or awkward. I would call it a sci-fi channel movie level of quality. It's hard for me to understand how anyone but the director's mother could praise this film.

The uniforms and equipment looked accurate. The acting and the script were terrible. I kept waiting for it to get better and it never did. The shame of it was that a few of the actors were fairly talented, but saddled with incredibly bad lines. The cigarette puffing contests between the brothers were laughable. The Russian commander whose face has adorned several horror movies demonstrated why he rarely speaks. We rented this movie from Redbox for a dollar and that was too much. I thought War Kill with George Montgomery was the worst war film I'd ever seen, but Brother's War is the "Showgirls" of war films.

A few poster seems to have problems that at the beginning of the film some Germans are using Russian weapons, and Russian use German tanks. One even made a comment about the Germans call it a panzer. And for this call it an unrealistic militarily and a joke. Well...About the history, plot, characters performance, etc, I leave for others to judge. But a simple note regarding uses of weapon.1. It's a well know fact, that the Germans and Russians used each others weapon during the WWII. Especially at the end of the war it become more and more usual. Both the Finish and Germans repainted the Russian tanks and used them. Just as the Russians repainted captured German tanks, etc... For you non belivers regarding this, I suggest you take a visit to a WWII museum in Finland or even better the fantastic tank museum outside Moscow, Russia... Enough said! 2. What's so funny that the Germans calls a tank a panzer? Panzer happens to be the German word for a tank. Panzer Division, etc.So claiming this movie is historical wrong, well yes it have it's flaws. But does it claim to be based on true story or actually events? Even the sun have it's dark spots, and movies like Enemy at the Gates and Saving Private Ryan that some praise, are surely more fiction then facts just as well, and they surely have their own flaws. But who cares, they are both damn good movies. For you WWII fanatics I recommend the movie "Talvisota" (possible buy with English subtitle).

Unfortunately the film starts well, well at least for the opening sequence. The acting is blah if even that. I'm actually a rather easily entertained movie goer and this was just too tough. I made it through the film for some unknown reason, perhaps I'm a bit of a sadist. The concept is good whereas this film is based on some tidbit of truth that the Russians have a secret that they don't want the Americans to find out about. The props and locations are good but the acting and lack of continuity in the plot makes this film worth passing by. I was especially irritated by the fact that everyone speaks English (the Germans and Russians) and the acknowledgment that "you speak good English," is all that let you know there was a language change. I ramble and that's a minor note but this movie was bad. Maybe they blew the budget on the props and tanks so they couldn't buy a good script or actors. I mean I just watched "I am Bruce" of Evil Dead fame and that was a bad movie but it kept me entertained. I wish I could say otherwise but you've been warned.

This film brings deserved attention to the plight of one of the most historically under-privileged and persecuted groups: The Freemasons. "Brother's War," as an expose of secret societies, has been described by the New York Times as approaching the social significance of Dan Brown's proud tomes. Tino Struckmann's revolutionary portrayal of Capt. Klaus Mueller, a German, as a gravel-voiced American stereotype suggests many shocking parallels between Nazi Germany and the society of now.To further emphasize the parallels of "Brother's War" to the society of now, the filmmakers intentionally included a number of shots with a protruding boom, and an extended scene in which an iPhone is clearly visible.

A good video camera alone is not enough to make a good movie. A little talent could help too. posted on 14 August 2009
This movie portraying the last days of WWII plays out like a spoof, worthy of the efforts of venerable "Weird" Al Yankovic. A stream of cartoon like characters, reminiscent of the residents of "Stalag 13", painfully trying to play "serious" roles. Evil, birded Gestapo agents... Evil, birded Russian front line army colonels, (moonlighting as NKVD executioners, wiping out entire governments)... Noble German Wehrmacht soldiers saving innocent maidens... Stupid Russian soldiers (drunk and horny, of course) who just can't wait to get killed...... This movie has it all. Maybe it all made a lot of sense to the producers. For me, unfortunately, none of it did. Not the director's hazy WWII history. Not the poor acting. Not the plot. Least of all not a $1 rental fee I paid to watch this masterpiece. So, is it: "roll over Private Ryan and tell Steven Spielberg to move"? Not for me.

Plus of this film: Good Music and the ending credits Negative: everything else, God don't waste your time The lead actors were all just terrible ,supporting actors were OK but who watches a movie for supporting actors. At first I was really mad at everyone who worked on this POS until I saw the credits. Than it all came together. The people responsible for stealing 2 hours of my life were apparently the two leads ,since they were the ones who wrote the story, produced and executive produced this piece of tripe A lesson for every actor out there. If your so bad at acting that no one will cast you and you have to write and fund your own movie maybe you need to find a new line of work.If I could change one thing about this movie I would put a disclaimer on the front of the box warning audiences that narcissistic crap is to follow So to the actor with the fake British accent and tony the German lead, guys I want my $1 back.

Brothers War was an exceptionally well made film given the budget and logistical problems posted on 23 July 2009
the Producers brought forth by some very capable people to bring to life a larger then life story of the debt of mankind and horrors of the war on the Eastern front, also with the added masonic twist strewn therein, it have obtained some very good reviews so far. the producers have my respect. it is very hard nearly impossibly to pull of a World War film on a low budget but they did it anyway. naturally it lacks to the Band of Brothers budget. but we truly believe our story tells the truth as it happened at those days. it is well made and the story line flows through out the movie. we can only hope the audience will enjoy and learn from it

This had to be one of the worst, if not the worst movies ever. Like the individual several comments before me said, they called the Russian tank a Panzer. Further, they then tried to, and if I recall correctly, succeeded by blowing a "Panzer" tank up with German potato mashers. Other stupid things that were done: The Germans talked with British accents; The officer and another soldier took cover behind a 6" tree ( like the guy above said). (I know this is all completely random stuff thrown together but I have to get 10 lines) I personally believe that the director, producers, and the nitwit who came up with this story and script should forever be banned from taking any part in the making of a movie.

I'm not a WWII historian. I do appreciate authenticity in movies about history. Especially movies about American history. I know what most people know about it. One thing I do know is that there were only 48 stars on the American flag in 1944-45. The scene in the American commander's quarters shows a 50 star flag hanging behind him. No, you can't quite count all the stars. But, the pattern of the array is of the post 1958 flag. Couldn't the prop department afford to go out and find a period-correct flag? I could forgive terrible special effects and a bad plot and stiff acting. But, the wrong flag! Low budget indeed!
