Sin City Full of Sin...Total Win posted on 30 Aug 2009
While I have not read any of Frank Miller's Sin City graphic novels I must say that he, Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarintino put this movie together quite well. Not only is the story and acting superb but the editing and shots they use are truly amazing. With the exception of Michael Clark Duncan's character I felt that all of the characters were given a well amount of time to work their character into the story and show where he or she is coming from within the Sin City universe. I also liked Elijah Wood's character Kevin I felt that he brought a very creepy mysterious element to it that the rest didn't also the darkness that cloaks the evil in this movie is quite well put together also with a Cardinal, Senator (and his son), and a crooked cop as the main baddie element in the story. Over all i give this movie a superb 10/10 anything better would have made my head spin rapidly and explode in a theater near you.

In my opinion, Sin City is great. It's Robert Rodriguez's best movie. This black and white movie is an action movie, but it looks as a comic, as Frank Miller's Sin City. There are three chapters: Marv (Mickey Rourke) is a guy who has passed the best night of his life with a woman called Goldie. AT the morning, she's dead. He'll look for the killer, a crazy man and, then, a priest. Hartigan is going to leave the police. But he does a last thing: he saves Nancy Callahan, a 11 aged girl who is going to be killed by the son of a senator. he saves her, but he'll go to jail during eight years. He'll discover then the love of Nancy, who's now nineteen. Dwight kills Jackie Boy in Old Town (bitches town). Jackie Boy is crazy, nut he's a policeman. Then there'll be a war between the bitches and other people through the control of Old Town. It's a bit violent, but Sin City is a good film. I also recommend The Killer (1989) directed by John Woo.

sin city is a rare adaption of a series of comic books. no movie has made such a piece of writing so great, and unbelievable. the directing and visual feel is unlike any movie i have ever seen. the acting is excellent as well, with an all star cast. the movie is based on the first three books of the sin city comic books. the scenes and visual make it look like as if you were reading the comic books, its just so amazing. though there is really no foul language, there are lots of violent scenes within the movie that it'll convince you that this is taratino-influenced. if u want to see one of the best pictures of 2005, its right here in the dark alley of sin city

What an excellent film! Cartoonish, but filled with dread.
An excellent character study as well as restraint on profanity and racist slurs which made this film much more entertaining.
The actors completely dissappeared into their characters except for Bruce Willis who has more of a type casting.
Mickey Rourke should get an Oscar nod for Marv. What an ape!
I will own this movie!! -
This past Sunday, I went to see Sin City, another in my recent binge of comic-book-based flicks. The film is comprised of three main stories. One features an unrecognizable Mickey Roarke as a reformed ex-con enforcer-type, who's been set up for murder. Another features Bruce Willis as an about-to-retire straight-shooter cop, who takes the fall for a nasty crime he didn't commit. The last features Clive Owen as a defender of the Old Town ladies of the evening, who run into a spot of trouble when they off an abusive, seedy chap who turns out to be a cop. There's a large, talented, well-known cast...except for Jessica Alba, who's nice looking but I'm not yet convinced that she's picked up any acting chops.
The movie's cinematography has the feel of a comic book, right down to its core. Everything's noir-ish, in primary comic-book colors, with odd camera angles that give it just that right feeling. The dialog is similarly stylized, and it's also pretty crude at times...not for younger children. Lots of stylized, noir-ish violence to be seen here as well. Just for reference, there's nowhere near as much violence here as in, say, Kill Bill Volume 1.
All in all, I was pretty pleased with the movie. Surprised by how will Roarke did; it's been a long time since I've seen him in anything. Worth seeing...but don't be taking your kids.

The name tells the truth of this movie! This is a real (Ba)Sin City. Lot of violence, blood, almost naked women, immorality, suffer, revenge and sex(not so much what I waited for). The law of Hammurab rules people on the Sin City. Eye to eye, teeth to teeth. You can't be never sure who is your fried and who is your fried. It's better to watch your back!
The Main reason why liked this movie wasn't violence, good stories, music and naked woman. They also suited this movie very well but without great actors and actress, I had ever enjoyed this film so much.
Especially, Mickey Rourke(Marv), Bruce Willis(Hartigan) and Elijah Wood (Kevin)
Rourke made a great comeback first class. He was very famous in the 80s(for exemple 9½ weeks) but lost his status in the 90s(there were many bad movies). Without his character Marv this movie has get me only 3 stars. Marv is very rude, angry, powerful die-hard, ungly and interesting person. Rourke really plays his role with unbelieveable emotion and skill.
In my mind, Willis has always been a good action actor. In this movie he has even better survivor than Die Hard films. So many gun shots, hits and even gallows pole won't stop him. Willis has come better actor and can express his feelings better than before.
Everyone remembers Elijah Wood on the Lord of the Ring movies.
He can't escape it but luckily they were amazing films.
Sin City shows that Wood can also play a wicked man role well.
Kevin is the most sickest character on this movie(cannibal, soul eater, the collector od dead people's faces). Unfortunately, his role small but remarkable. He don't speak at all but facial expressions, fast movements, sharp nails, dark personality and his animal fried makes his role unique.
I liked also woman characters. Devon Aoki(Miho) was taken on Kill Bill movies because she was so deathly and cold minded than anu woman character on these movies. Jessica Alba ( Nancy Callahan) danced beautifully and looked captivating.
Finally, this movie was worth of watching and I am going to see it again same day. -
I just got out of the advanced screening about 3 hours ago and I have to say I wasn't shocked or surprised. The movie was a complete piece of garbage...it did look kinda cool but then again that doesn't mean much. The acting was horrible, the writing (which may or may not have come directly from a comic book was laughably ridiculous) and the above all else the movie was simply booooorrring.I am an avid comic book fan but even I realize that transposing a comic book directly to a movie screen isn't by itself a good idea. This movie could have severely benefited from a rewrite of the source material. What sounds cool in a paneled comic book just sounds silly when coming from flesh and blood characters.Comicphiles are going to love this movie despite its many faults -- more power to you. But if you are an individual who wants to be entertained for two hours in exchange for your nine bucks. Look elsewhere 3 out of 10

For artistic execution, Sin City is top notch. For plot, character, continuity and theme...well, it would have been nice to include these. Any woman (or man) should be offended by the film's portrayal and objectification of women. They are either damsels in distress or prostitutes. This scantily clad gang of prostitutes perpetuates a ridiculous image of women whose power is attained only in a herd-like detachment from society. Male characters are similarly stereotypical and flat -- brutish, violent, sex-driven, all the old clichés. The dialogue sounds like it was written by a 17 year-old high school student. The violence is inventive but pointless. Save your money.

This film is one of my favorite films ever.In this movie Bruce Willis says something that it should have been mentioned in this page. He said "An old man dies,a young girl lives.Fair trade". That was astonishing in my opinion and the best tag line i've ever heard. This movie has both people who admire the movie and people who don't like it at all.I believe that this is because they think that the whole point of the movie is what they see in the screen and not the true meaning of the film. They believe that it's not realistic at all because of some scenes which seem hard to believe that can really happen. Those people just can't understand the point of the film.In my point of view, the film is not about violence and crimes but mostly for love and fairness.

I have just left the cinema. I feel a wide range of emotions. All of these emotions, however, are positive. What a film! The best way to describe this film is a black & white meeting between Batman and all Quentin Tarantino films. The way the film is delivered, you really get the feeling that it stays true to the comic book. Most of the graphics are very cartoony and some of the violence is occasionally over-the-top, which is what makes you feel like you're watching a very, very violent comic book come to life. There is an unreal amount of blood. However, the blood doesn't always come out on the screen as red which, in a way, adds to the disturbance. The acting in the film isn't the finest, but it doesn't need to be. The directing is superb and overall I left the cinema feeling like I had witnessed a new era in film.

This review refers to the earlier single-disc edition that was released back in August. As much as I am lauding the special edition that is released a mere few months later, I abhorred the way Disney/Miramax treat their clients and customers with such contempt. Do they hate the consumers so much that they expect all of us to double dip each of their title that is released? Luckily, when I purchased this single disc edition, it was at a huge discount from Amazon, if not, I wouldn't have bothered even casting a glance at its cover.

I was so sickened and disgusted by his character... especially that quote "even after i had cut of his arms and legs he still stared at me with that same sick smile on his face". Good thing it was in black & white. I think they should have made the movie clearer. Other than that it was okay. Like the color effects, for eyes and hair.-rock peas on my head but don't call me a pea head. Bees on my head but don't call me a bee head. Bruce Lee's on my head but don't call me a Lee head. Now please excuse me, I gots to get my tree fed. You wear name brands and I make my own clothing. I hang out with an apple who loves self-loathing. "I hate myself."Pancake on my face makes me extra happy. I like shampoo bottles that sit on my lappy. Cause it's my show you can't tell me what to do. When life hands me lemons I make beef stew.So yo I gotta go, it's time for me to rock it. I put baloney in my left pocket. Smear some cream cheese in my gold locket . Cause it's my show I'm Andy Milonakis. It's my show I'm Shmandy Shmila-Shmakis. It's my show I'm Andy Milonakis.

A Tuesday evening. Nothing much to do so I head off to the local video store. I scan the shelves looking for something I haven't seen. Then I spot it. "Sin City." I don't know anything about it, never read the comic on which it is based. I just know the ratings are good, so it goes home with me . I pop it in the DVD player. A girl on a balcony in the city. A man walks up to her. There is no color except for her dress and lipstick, both of which are deep scarlet. He engages her with small talk. She responds. They kiss. And then ..I have no time to contemplate what has just happened. Soon we are deep in the bowels of Sin City. As they say, make the right turn and you can find anything in Sin City. This is what I find .A man and a woman on a heart-shaped bed in a hotel. She has golden hair and a scarlet dress. Her name is Goldie. He has the body of a gladiator, but a mug like Frankenstein. Marv can't believe she wants him but she does. They make passionate love and then pass out on the bed. When he wakes up, she is lying dead beside him. She needed him, but he couldn't protect her from the fiend who was stalking her. However, he can and will avenge her death. When he finds the guy responsible, it will be the hard goodbye .Old Town, where the police never interfere because the girls pay off and never mess with the guys carrying a badge. In return, they are free to run things in Old Town their way. Jack Rafferty blunders in and makes the wrong move. He's a cop, but the girls don't know that. Soon he's dead at the hands of deadly Miho and if the police find out, the fragile truce will end and the mob will move in. Dwight must dispose of the body in order to keep the peace and protect his warrior woman, Gail ..Kadie's Bar, where the girls swing, especially curvaceous Nancy, who twists and gyrates in rhythm to the music. Detective Hartigan is there to find the girl who he saved from rape and worse eight years before. He thinks she has come to harm, but it was all a ruse to lead their enemies to her. He must protect her any way he can; she doesn't want to leave the only man she has ever loved ..End of credits. I am totally blown away. A little slow on the uptake, I watch again to tie up loose ends. I am not disappointed. I would schedule a third viewing, but I have to take "Sin City" back to the video shop, so I say the hard goodbye. But I will be back. I will most definitely be back .

The innovative approach to the look of this film is the primary seduction. Studying the visual effects in isolation is reasonable and informative. Regarding the story itself, I found the form and portrayal of violence in the film to be disturbing. While characters are rendered by living actors (certainly some of my favorite), the violence inflicted by characters on each other in many cases is lethal with the film representing it as survivable. The effect is to create a struggle between a sense of realism and its creative suspension that leaves us with a film that is extremely uncomfortable to watch. Unless you are a fan of the graphic novel series from which the story was adapted, I cannot recommend this film.

When you first start watching this you think that the voice-overs and dialogue are painfully obvious and a little corny but i think that that is the way that it is supposed to be presented. Since it is based on a graphic novel I was expecting it to be a little different but i was completely blown out of the water. I really started to get into the movie and I came out of the theatre so excited that I just had to use the bathroom. It was not only completely beautiful but all the characters were wonderfully played. My personal favourites were Mickey Rourke, Clive Owen, Bruce Willis and the cute but deadly Devon Aoki.Mickey Rourke did a wonderful job as the beast seeking revenge for the only dame that had ever shown him any sort of kindness. Clive Owen is always the master of playing the dark, brooding characters that make chills run down your spine. And it doesn't hurt that he's not all that bad to look at either. Bruce Willis is just awesome and it amazes me how I can find someone almost 40 years older than me that attractive.Devon Aoki was just my favourite character of all. She doesn't say a single word but she just kicks so much ass that you have got to love her. Robert Rodriguez is also one of my very favourite directors. If you liked any of his work than I guarantee that you will love this one. I walked in excited and came out amazed. Go see it and you will know what I mean. It will completely blow your mind.

An explosive Pulp Fiction style action movie featuring a magnificent cast including Bruce Willis, Clive Owen and Mickey Rourke in this screen version of the graphic novels created by Frank Miller. There are 3 stories about Hartigan, Dwight and Marv and how these characters are driven to revenge and war. All of the characters in this movie are significant in their own way and this movie mixes violence and humour. With brilliant and talented directors Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez this is a bit of a change when it comes to special effects and action sequences. This movie also features talent such as Elijah Wood, Michael Clarke Duncan, Michael Madsen, Rutger Hauer and Benicio Del Toro. This would have to be one of the funniest action movies of all time.

Sin City is a very stylish movie, with lots of different colour effects and symbolic references but I feel the style kind of outweighed the lack of storyline. They never really went into any great detail about the characters and what was going on. The fact there are 3 different stories and it's all over in the space of about 1 hour and 40 minutes meant that each story was rushed and out of the way quickly. What they should have done with this book was split it up into three separate movies. Then they could have spent more time getting the audience interested in the story and the characters rather than blinding them with stylish effects.

having only recently been indoctrinated into the callous world of the sin city comics, i wasn't sure that i would be able to judge the movie fairly. months earlier when i first read them, i loved the overall feel and pace to them and friends and i would discuss how a movie version of this should go off. as information became more available i became more assured that the movie would be great. Robert Rodriguez as director? super. mickey Rourke as Marv? bonanza! but still an inkling of fear remained that the ratings board would nueter the film and derail the overall quality. surprise surprise when this movie came out pound for pound every bit as violent as Natural Born Killlers (a movie that had an infinite amount of problems with the fascist MPAA) and yet raised not an eyebrow.then the film comes out on April fools day. what a set up. i must say that i have not been this impressed with a comic book movie since the first batman in 1989. robert rodriguez met and exceeded all expectations by dogmatically adhering to the novels themselves. the movie was born free of director and actor ego that often muddles good work. performances by Rourke, Willis, Alba, and the rest are exactly right. the look and feel of the film is wonderful. the violence is far enough over the top and the female nudity sprinkled generously enough that a warm feeling settled in my stomach by movie's end i like the wittle wittle movie oh course, said nudity and violence does seem to slow by the end to a crawl but i think the director planned it that way to reverse the common action picture logic of a final build up of violence/chase sequence/confrontation et cetera. here instead the violence is unleash from the word go, and then the movie changes gears and the director says, "okay, you've seen this, now look at this".brilliant ten out of ten and hey i'm one of the first voters
