If this had a minus 10 I'd chosen that! posted on 16 Aug 2009
As soon as they mentioned what this supposed secret was I nearly threw up in disgust. This is the greatest offence to people who really suffer. Are we so dumbed down here in the west, that we can't see what is real and what is fake? Or what is wisdom and what is ignorance? Do we know what real suffering is? Anyway, I am a lucky person, my goal in life isn't the pursuit of happiness (which is just one of many moods), nor money, success, health, nor any of the usual crap. But I guess if it makes you a better,(less complaining) human being, good for you. (And probably for those around you.)

The movie started really exciting. A older woman tells about her life being a total mess after a divorce, a death in family and broke. She gets this little book from her daughter and started to read, darrarara, uuuuu it opens her mind "and little did she know" I'm still watching at that point excited. Then after the opening shot some old guys start to talk about something that I think is almost common sense and they talk about this secret to me like I am living in the 1800. It gave me the creeps. So I watched it and listened to them thinking about the story about the woman in the beginning of the film. Do I get to the continuing of the story? NO? Why on earth did they then start telling me about her and her problems?? I'm not satisfied with this film.

I just finished watching this on the internet. The trailer gives the impression that this film is a historical drama involving some elusive secret that many very famous personages past and present had discovered and used to create extraordinary larger-than-life lives for themselves. That is in fact what this film is about but it is a documentary with brief dramatizations illustrating the points and lessons of the speakers. The film has an amazing message and I thought it was important enough for me to purchase the DVD after I finished viewing it.But be warned that this is more of a documentary and less of a dramatic presentation.Sort of a inspirational self-help metaphysical book presented as a narrative documentary film.Update: Well, it looks like time has confirmed my prediction. The book version of The Secret is a national bestseller and the creators of the film have appeared on major talk shows. But the real surprise is that it seems every one in ten people among my friends and associates discuss The Secret and ask me have I heard of it?!I think it is safe to say that the movement has begun!--Derek Williams 2/28/07

I finally broke down and borrowed a copy to watch. The reason I finally did was I have problems with my post office. I have for 20 years. As I was trying to track yet another missing piece of mail, the girl I was talking to said I needed to see the Secret. If I just thought more positive, my mail service might improve. Wow! Mail by positive affirmation.I should sue them, along with several other authors and people. It was a complete ripoff of a class I teach on Candle Magick! The problem is that the positive affirmations, visualizations and all they explain can work. But then they say if anything, and I mean anything goes wrong in you life, IT IS YOUR FAULT! Yes, many people cause their own problems, but bad things do happen and the blame the victim mentality is just wrong. There is no Secret. Many people teach and write the same thing. Think positive and your life will be positive. I believe that. But things do go wrong. I say that we are not always responsible for what happens in our lives, but we are responsible how we deal with it.

This is really one of the best motivational videos around. It teaches, but really doesn't preach. It's not over sensational like say Tony Roberts. It doesn't claim to offer 'quick fixes' but rather realistic approaches. It says everything you might have heard before, but in such a different way the principals make perfect sense and the movie really inspires you.The secrets are simple - ask, believe and receive. Yet so few people really believe in them. In this video you'll see real people, people who have achieved a variety of accomplishments talk about each precept and how it applies. The examples are really well thought out, the production values as good as any major motion picture. I can see myself viewing it again and again for sensible motivation. It's not just a 'feel good' motivational video. It's something that really makes you think about how the universe can and does give people exactly what they want and think about most.Whereas I may not recommend other motivational products, say Tony Robbins, etc. to everyone I know, I can honestly say I'd recommend this to everyone. The rating it has received probably has more to do with skeptics who felt the movie was more of the same old platitudes. Sure there is nothing you haven't heard before, but the way its said is definitely motivating. I also suspect people don't rate it highly because they fail to see what the true message is, and were looking for 'something more'. Also I think people have to be at that point in their life where they truly want to change and don't want to fight change for this video to fully appeal to them. And there's nothing in the video that will 'do it for you'; you essentially have to do it all yourself. And I suspect that's where people feel let down by many motivational materials. You can view it online for $4.95 which is what I'd recommend first. If it's not your cup of tea, you've lost about a latte. If it is your cup of tea, you'll probably find yourself buying the DVD and changing your life in the process.

After briefly seeing a snip of some of this on the Larry King show, I was curious and purchased a copy. I found the artwork beautiful in places, cheesy in others. And the message, while uplifting at times, has it's own negative side behind all the pretty new age music.I have a very difficult time with the victim blaming concept put forth by those who follow this. I have read them account abuse, rape, slavery, holocausts, natural disasters, etc. to the Law of Attraction. When pushed for an answer on how even a child could attract or manifest these horrors to their lives, they'll blame it on karma - perhaps the child abused, raped or otherwise brought this to themselves in a "past life" Oh, please. While I agree to a point that you do attract circumstances and people by your own thoughts and actions, I reject the basic concept of this movie that 100% of everything that happens to every single person no matter what their race, religion, etc. they brought upon themselves.

I have to say I have been a very negative person my whole life. Angry and bitter about this and that. I saw this movie the other night at my dad's house. I haven't stopped thinking about it since. It's mind-changing. My shock is when I logged on here and saw all the hate-spewing venom from people who apparently don't agree.I have to say I cant see what all the complaining is about. It's a real common sense approach to staying positive. Why does that make you angry? Even if you didn't like it why do you post here paragraph after paragraph complaining? Sounds like you're afraid of something to me. Is it because these people are making money helping people? Isn't making money what you want? Staying positive is a great thing. I bet if I saw this video years ago I'd be 100x happier. The worst that could happen is that you are reminded to stay upbeat and positive and things will happen in due time. This makes you angry? I don't see it.

This documentary has changed my life like nothing ever has...not even Christianity. The enormous amount of euphoria this film creates makes it worth watching over and over again. I found myself wanting to learn more about the Law of Attraction, which led me to Abraham-Hicks. If you don't know about Abraham-Hicks, please go here: http://www.abraham-hicks.com . Some people may call this type of film New Age, but that doesn't do it justice. I choose to call it revolutionary. Watch it and you will see what I mean. If you are looking for a way to change your thoughts and actions to benefit you rather than harm, this is for you. If you are reading this, then I can assume the Law of Attration is working positively for you.

Reading the comments I'm surprised :D Most of the negative comments say "cannot I be a top NFL player just by visualising it?". No you cannot. If simple asking is all you can do, then no - you can not. You have to believe it. I'm not convinced in some outer world, but I do believe positive thinking brings success. I watched the movie yesterday, today is such a great day compared to 99% of last few months! I thought about "I want to make some money fast soon" and yes, suddenly i made 400 today almost out of nothing and got an offer on some future projects! But it's probably not connected to anything about the movie. What is important, that every time you think about something, you give more importance to it and your mind works much better to achieve it. It will not end a war, it will make you think how to survive the war better. It will not 100% cure bad diseases, but it will help you live better the rest of your life until you die. If you're pesimistic "oh, i got cancer, i will die, im loser, im dead", you better off shoot yourself already. YOU WILL NOT GET A 350Z ROADSTER JUST BECAUSE THE MOVIE SAYS SO! If you're passionate about cars and have a dream car, you will get it. If you don't get it, probably it's not that important for yourself - you don't really want it so much. I smiled and talked kindly to so many people today and I'm happy about it. I want to get closer with my friends. I chose different routes during lunch and suddenly met 2 good friends. Isn't happiness all that you want in your life? The movie said only once, but it must be articulated - positive attracts negative. You cannot have everything positive! If you believe in God, this sentence describes it somehow: "God always listens, but sometimes the answer is NO". As for the quality of the movie - its poor. Very poor. It starts as a story of some woman. What woman? What problem? No idea, suddenly it starts as a documentary and a Tel Sell advertisement. Just selling the movie for 1.3 hours. But it's worth it if you understand what it means. Most of the commenters don't. 9 for the worth of the movie, 4 for plot and cinematography. 7/10 total Recommended movie for everyone who is stressed in life (99% of us)

In fact what this documentary is telling us, is NOT a secret. The knowledge in this documentary should be educated at school. We've been long enough in a world with troubles all around us. Corrupt world leaders and other in our national governments, shadow governments and also non-government organizations's have kept this information back for us.Don't think while watching the movie. Don't expect immediate answers. The answers always will come later, and always with more questions.Be positive and find your way on the path of enlightenment. Just be, cause there is no right or wrong, but always a way of doing. Don't resist but just flow.

the nay-sayers aren't wrong, but they aren't right either - movie is a good start, worth seeing, but not the whole story posted on 15 Jun 2009
I'm glad I saw the movie *before* I read all these comments.I greatly appreciate the words of GreySphinx, japonaliya, alunde-1, robschmidt, and the like. I have read comments of the "haters" very closely, and their tone is so acerbic that leads me to ask them the following: who hurt you? The irony is that I don't have a problem with what they said, it doesn't bother me they reject the message of the movie - however, I do believe their critical words make the best case for the premise of the movie.I consider myself an intelligent man with better than average critical thinking skills (and I know my employer does as well); and I do not believe that this movie insulted my intelligence. But if you believe that this movie was suppose to tell you *everything* you need to know about how to transform their life in 90 minutes, then I completely understand the source of your upset. But consider the following: this movie is only the "tip of the iceberg" (I intentionally chose that that metaphor because the tip of the iceberg only shows one about 10% of itself above the surface I'll leave it to you to figure out how much of this philosophy is left for the interested party to discover ;-) ). Hence I respectfully disagree with vuduzombie I believe one of the points of this movie is to inspire intellectual evolution.I also respectfully disagree with OnlyPassingBy's assessment that this movie promotes "victim-blaming." I believe it's quite the opposite. I believe that the movie is asking the viewer to consider the radical concept that one is 100% responsible for anything that happens in their life. So if we are 100% responsible, then by definition we cannot blame anyone else. And from there we have the opportunity to realize that we are solely responsible to change whatever it is we want, if for no other reason than the fact that we are not wasting any of our precious time/energy/effort blaming someone else, not even 1%. (Even though I wholly believe in the principle of "100% responsibility," I wish I could say that I were talented enough to accomplish it all the time, but I do stumble and find myself "partially" blaming someone else. At least now I realize when I'm stumbling and that gives me the opportunity to right myself.) What I find interested about hazzard_hotel's beer-theory is that he is so close to "getting" the Law of Attraction. Unfortunately I believe he is confusing the Law of Attraction with the Magic of Manifestation. Consider that the point of the Law of Attraction is that before you can have something, you must want it first. So yes, if you want a cold beer, you "imagine" having a cold beer (and where does one "imagine" but in their mind). And then you do what it takes to get yourself a cold beer go to a bar, go the fridge, go to the store, whatever it takes (even asking someone to get it for you) and voilà, you've got yourself the cold beer that you wanted in other words, "thoughts become things." And yes, if you have ever listened to Bill Gates talk about his life before Microsoft, he has said "I imagined myself being rich." But then he follows up with "And this is what I did to make that happen." (Consider that JFK's "positive thinking" in fact did put a rocket on the moon and that this weekend there are 32 men, who as boys, imagined themselves as NFL starting quarterbacks. Of course there was a lot of hard work between the initial desire and the final achievement.)So I get how to some this movie can be seen as a tease. The movie does not tell you in precise words that the road to what you imagine is paved with action. Ultimately it's up to you to do and realize the remaining 90% of the iceberg but that's just "common sense," right? Actually, no, this level of sense is not common if it were, then Dr.Phil would be out of a job. Even the smartest of us need help and occasional reminders (especially me).I believe this movie is intended to be provocative, and the "haters" demonstrate that the movie meets its intent. If one thinks that this movie will be a one shot panacea, then you're in for a big disappointment. But if one is ready to do the rigorous work and take personal responsibility to do what it takes to transform their lives, then by all means see this movie.

If you are the cynical type, then watch something else. But if you can take some positive reinforcement then this could be a good movie for a rainy day... Yes, towards the end it feels like you should spend money on their website, to achieve something in your life, which spoiled all the good feelings I had about the movie's motivational input... so, should I say "Not for the impressionable ones"? However, guys, cheer up and take it for what's good in it for you. No harm done in an hour of some people reminding you what a great potential you have in general. Somehow it worked for me and yes, I went to check the website, thesecret.TV, with absolutely no interest in buying any of their material...

Another quick-fix marketing scheme in the guise of pseudo-science. Nothing new here, just repackaging the same old "think positive" stuff. I am quite thankful some of the suppositions they make can't possibly be true, otherwise every horrid American Idol wannabe-contestant THROUGHOUT THE WORLD would have their own TV show. This whole thing is a vehicle for the authors to try to sell books. No one is really introduced, but they are labeled with self-proclaimed monikers like "philosopher" and "visionary". Excuse me, what? I find it hard to believe that instead of visualizing another warm day on the beach working a job or relaxing that 200,000 people instead visualized being sucked down to the bottom of the ocean in 2004. Think positively, yes. Visualize your goals, yes. If the effects/cinematography *wow* you, watch some BBC Space specials instead, they're just as CGI pleasing but with actual factual content rather than snake oil. This film totally overlooks that goals are achieved through action AS WELL AS visualization. The big secret? Much like "what the bleep"...this is a marketing/sales tool to lure people to buy more self-help stuff. Alternate suggestion: Actually STUDY the historical figures they quoted to obscenely push their agenda, sit in a quiet room with your thoughts, and decide for yourself. This is the kind of thing that holds up our intellectual evolution. Avoid at all costs.

I give the film a 3 and not its well deserved 1, because it offered me some laugh-out-loud moments with its level of dumbness. In case people haven't noticed, this is not a documentary, this is a 90 minute advertisement, with the names of so-called "experts" flashing on the screen for ages (if it was a documentary everybody knows that names are only shown once and without embossed signatures). No wonder each one of the "gurus" is on the business of "get rich quick" or "succeed in your life" or "find happiness" and the like.I can only feel sympathy for people who consider elementary school advice like "think positive" a ground-breaking "secret", well kept for centuries. And I find amazing that they are prepared to suspend their brain function in order to believe that you can avoid accidents, bills, diseases or catastrophes just by not thinking about them or that you will get money just by thinking about money. At least they must understand that the only people actually getting money from this advice are the advisers themselves.

Those of you who bash "The Secret" need to watch it a few times and also, read the book. Every critical review I've read about "The Secret" has failed to mention the other major components of the Law of Attraction: FEELING and ACTION! You can think about your new home all you want, but if you don't feel the feeling of owning it and you just sit on your a** all day, you'll never get it. Also, if you do this and then you turn around and say "I can't afford that" well then, you're creating more of a lack. The movie says to take inspired action, which is required every time! It does not once say that stuff will just fall into your lap. Why you imbeciles have failed to understand that FEELING and INSPIRED ACTION are required to get what you want is beyond me.Oh, and I'm sure Bill Gates didn't start Microsoft thinking "Oh man, I don't have enough money! Man, I am going to be poor someday!" He knew he was going to make money, one way or another. When you get a check in the mail, your thoughts and feelings are to go to the bank. The check won't magically fly there. If that check is for say....$40,000, you wouldn't care if the bank was 1 hour away and you had to walk there in the rain barefoot. You'd be overjoyed! That's what inspired action is; it may seem like work to some, but to others, it's a thrill! People would see that person walking and think "Umm, crazy!" However, that same person would be overjoyed, knowing they were on their way to put a $40,000 check in their bank account.Oh, and for the douche who said that if everyone was happy all the time, it'd be depressing: how dumb are you? That's the whole point of life: to BE HAPPY! That is what everybody strives for! Do you enjoy being around depressing people? Noooo!!!!!!!! Everyone loves being around happy people, because it brings their spirits up! That "Miracle Man" in the movie had an inspired thought to take a deep breath; it didn't happen on it's own.Have a great night!

NOTE: This review is for the ORIGINAL release of the Secret with ESTHER HICKS. Current versions have edited Hicks out of the program. I have not seen the new version. This is a very empowering documentary, that gives quite a bit more than simply a few good pieces of advice.True, not everyone is ready to hear the messages contained in this movie. And not everyone will want to hear what it has to say. That is fine. But for those who have the ears, let them listen. This movie does not simply advocate "positive thinking," but advocates an awakening of consciousness. It suggests we get familiar with the good feelings associated with good thoughts, and helps us with how to cultivate and maintain that, and thus, bring about extraordinary circumstances in our lives. And it gives wondrous examples of REAL PEOPLE who have overcome overwhelming odds in the categories such as deathly illnesses, financial despair, and those with hopeless relationship problems.Based on the teachings of Esther Hicks, I highly recommend this documentary!

Unprincipled, capitalist, badly thought, unfair by not giving credits, best seller - typical American. posted on 20 Apr 2009
1. Unprincipled. It teaches collecting things 'unresponsibly' without mentioning environmental and resources problems and backing this up with a statement that the universe is abundant (which is nonetheless a truth). It mostly overlooks (except from one sentence of a lady) that those things will mostly likely not make you happy. It mostly overlooks the issue of 'balance' of human life except from one sentence of a man who says that you need to score well on relationships, health, wealth, etc. Principles not emphasized: 'loyalty' to you real self which is one with the universe, 'balance', 'responsibility', 'modesty', 'humbleness', 'friendship and sharing', 'patience', 'contentment', 'respect'. Largely unprincipled movie. Are they going to teach that on part two (you got the gun, now here are the other things to consider when using it).2. It teaches the secret badly as it is more effective to work on one wish at a time.3. It does not give credits and makes up a funny story even involving the emerald tabled to give suspense to what actually should be a documentary. Please western, bow to the wisdom of the east (I am a western myself), don't be an arrogant, not invented here syndromic American. Don't repackage it and sell it with a soap box. Don't be cheap.4. It is bound to be a best seller, but that is all. (It speaks what the average American wants: how to continue living in their trajectory for the green stuff). It will never be deemed a good documentary as it covers 'what' people want, not 'why' neither 'how' which are important investigation perspectives of any serious press quality documentary. For the reader I advice you to spend some time reading some ancient civilizations philosophy.

The secret is an interesting movie. I have met people that say it really works and call "the law of attraction" science. I have also heard people say that it is crock or sham. I seem to stand some where in between...sort of.This film preaches that if you think something good is going to happen, then it will. Because of this, you should try to train yourself to only have good thoughts and not have bad thoughts. Due to the law of attraction, this will make whatever you are thinking about happen. If you think about good things all the time, good things will happen. If you think about money all the time, you will get money. This can actually work in improving your life. The reason this can work is because it is just bastardized Eastern thought. A large part of Buddhism is training your mind to only think of positive things. This will help you become a better person and you will feel better because of it.If you eliminate bad thoughts consciously, you are always going to feel better. You are going to be in a good mood most of the time, so things that bothered you before are not going to bother you now. So it seems like things are not bothering you, and the law of attraction is working. But, you are just in a better mood so you don't even notice it.If you are focused on getting money all the time, and you are in a good mood, you are more likely to go out and actually do something about it. If all you are thinking about is money, you are going to be dedicated to getting it.I think that the secret is just watered down Eastern thought for Westerners. It uses principles that have been around for thousands of years, but preaches them for a different means. The thing is that they still work.If anyone is really interested in the secret I suggest getting some books by the dali lama. You will realize what I mean.

After I saw this movie, I realized, in how many ways we were encouraged to use the secret. In many ways which I didn't realize until I saw this movie. It's taught to us since we are young. The elders encourage the young to be positive, grateful and be happy.Whenever I say something negative, elders would say "Don't be so negative!". I don't need to be an quantum physicist or a philosopher to say, "thinking positively, just feels good!".The secret is actually not a secret. But a novel, interesting, intriguing way to reintroduce those good habits that were taught to us when we were young. But over the time, we just ignore those good habits and start going negatively. As one person said, just positive thinking wont bring food to the famine hit African countries. It's because they are in such a desperate state that, those people can never think of anything pleasant! Who knows, if they knew the secret, Bill Gates might just give his charity money to those people!

I thoroughly enjoyed the movie. Very empowering. The movie is best watched several times and kept in a personal library for a "refresher" when necessary. And its important to keep a few things in mind, the most important being:If the movie hit a chord with you then concentrate on what you want. Do not waste your time trying to justify your thoughts, ideas, notions, or whatever to anyone else. If your goals are entrenched in morally correct principles then you will not be negatively affecting others. Above all else, do not respond to the negativity of others, either in the verbal or printed form. If you are wasting your time trying to convince others why you think or do something...then watch the movie again and refrain from such asinine activities. If the movie did not hit a chord with you, then post your negative assessments here.Enjoy!
