Tom goes along with Miriam and Snuf one week stay with their uncle and their cousin Hans Jaap. Near the house of Uncle Hans was a haunted castle. There is also a legend tied down, the legend of Black Bertram, also called the curse of the blind. In the castle a gang of smugglers has been established. Barninkhof detective is looking for this gang, who constantly strikes. When Tom sees someone in the haunted castle, nobody seems to believe him. Tom decides to prove just going to investigate, along with Snuf. This brings Tom into contact with the dangerous gang of smugglers in the haunted castle.
